An interesting heating system.

The basement under the theater area can be accessed from the dressing room hall. This area has a ceiling of small linear vaults which are supported by a forest of concrete pillars. Above the vaulted ceiling is the concrete floor of the theater.

A commanding feature of this area is this steam boiler. It is a type of boiler which was used on steam ships. It almost certainly saw a previous life powering a Keuka Lake Steamer!

Nestled between the concrete pillars, the boiler is 14 feet long and over 3 feet in diameter. Two fire pits are beneath the boiler. The pit at this end is much smaller, probably all that was needed on milder days. A wall similar to one seen in the next photo would have covered this end.
