SEPT. 5th - We welcome our new interim pastor!

 

Rev. Richard D. Burke will take the pulpit on Sunday, September 5, as our interim minister.

Rev. Burke is retired and has lived in Florida as of late.

He pastored at the First Baptist Church of New York City from 1976 to 1988.

 

We’re looking forward to welcoming Rev. Burke to First Baptist Church of Penn Yan.

From the board of Christian Education:

 

Rally Day

Sunday School Rally Day will be on September 12, where all will have the opportunity to enroll in a Church School program. Church School offerings include Primary and Elementary classes beginning after the Children’s Story. The Adult Class will begin after the Sunday Service.

 

Teacher

Our teacher for the Elementary Program beginning on October 3 will be Diane DeLooza, who will teach, she says, until the snow flies. Diane is a fine teacher. We hope it is a dry fall, Diane. (Added note from Dick: … and a SNOWLESS winter!)

 

Other News

 

Women’s Sunday

American Baptist Woman’s Sunday is September 19th.  Our guest speaker will be Amy Manning, assistant regional director for Church World Service in upstate New York. During that servicewe will present to Amy the completed school and hygiene kits we have collected and put together during the summer. Plan to join us for what promises to be an interesting and informative service planned and led by the women of our congregation.

 

Hiking

On September 19, we will have the opportunity to walk through Kashong Glen. Our guide, Lyle Conrad, tells that in addition to rhe fall scenery, there are interesting fossils to be found in the rocks along the way. Our trek will begin after the service. Bring tennis shoes and plan to get your feet wet!

 

Lay Studies

A Lay Studies class on Spiritual Development will be offered this fall. The instructor will be Pastor Debbie Kamm of Reed’s Corners Babtist church. The cost for this course is free to members of our church with an application to thr Finger Lakes Association of ABC/NYS. The time is to be announced.

 

 

From the Church Office
With the arrival of September, we welcome back many of the community groups who use our facilities. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Community Chorus, Keuka Quilters, and the Backpack Program. Keep this in mind as your group plans activities. Be sure to check with Peggy on the availability of rooms, and get your activity on the calender, Thank you!!!

Marbles Glass was here to insrall a new door closure on the main glass door.

Thanks, again, to those who stepped in to give me time off for my knee surgery and vacation. Thank you, thank you. thank you!!

Communications is key. Try to remember to pass along information from your committee's upcoming planned activities. Who, what, when,where, how. Submit them by the middle of the month to be included in the next month's newsletter.
