Stptember 2015
Greetings Church Family!

I hope your summer was all you hoped it would be. For us it has been very busy. There has been little of the rest and leisure we look for, but the Lord grants strength for the day.

There is a correction from my last letter, the Keuka College Houses of Worship fair is on the 5th of September. It would be great if we had ideas on how we could minister to the students there.

Along similar lines, the chaplain at Keuka will be joining us for our Association meeting at Himrod on September 13th so we can talk about what it means for them to be an ABC affiliated school.

Also, at our association meeting will be our Associate Executive Minister, Jerrod Hugenot, to address the responsibilities of church officers in a session called, “What the Nominating Committee Didn’t Tell You”.

We are also looking forward to a service with the Gideons on the 20th.

Some of the things we will need to renew talk about are a projector and the organ. We pray for God’s guidance as we pray for how He would have us steward His church.

Hour of Prayer
There is a new small group meeting for prayer. The “Hour of Prayer” group will learn more about prayer and put it into practice as we intercede for FBC ministries, missionaries and social justice.

Our mission is to bring our congregation closer together through prayer. Discussion: what is prayer, what does the Bible say about prayer, why is prayer important, what do you feel before, during and after praying. We will examine various prayers in the Bible and how they pertain to us today.

The Hour of Prayer: Join us on Thursday evenings at 7:00 pm at the church

School Bags for Church World Service
In the month of September, ABW will once again collect school items for School Bags for CWS. I have already started making the bags – my goal is to do at least 25. I challenge you to fill them all. Keep your eyes open as the back-to-school sales are in full swing. Thank you for any items you can contribute.

Each completed kit should include:
- One large eraser
- One box of 24 crayons (only 24!)
- One hand-held pencil sharpener
- One 30 centimeter ruler (12 inch)
- One pair of blunt (round tip) metal scissors
- Six new pencils with erasers (do not sharpen)
- Three 70-count spiral notebooks (no loose-leaf filler paper)

Community Chorus
The PY Community Chorus will begin rehearsals for their Gala 40th Anniversary Christmas Concert on Monday, September 28th at 7 pm at FBC PY. The concert will be held at FBC on Sunday, December 6th at 2 pm. Under the direction of Jennifer Kraemer, the chorus will be singing selected pieces from Handel’s Messiah, as well as other Christmas favorites from over the last 40 years. Everyone is invited to participate in this very special event – there are no auditions. The only requirement is a love of singing. A Prayer for Students and Teachers
Lord God, your Spirit of wisdom fills the earth and teaches us your ways. Look upon all students as they begin a new school year. Let them enjoy their learning and take delight in new discoveries. Help them to persevere in their studies and give them the desire to learn all things well. Look upon the teachers. Let them strive to share their knowledge with gentle patience and endeavor always to bring the truth to eager minds. Grant that students and teachers alike may follow Jesus Christ, the way, the truth, and the life, for ever and ever. Amen.
