First Baptist Church                           July & August 2013

From the pastor

Dear FBC Family,

It has finally warmed up (though just now a bit too much for me). Summer is in full swing and people are coming and going.  Some are coming back from southern winter havens and others are going on vacation.  But, whether coming or going, visiting or just resting, it is good to know that we are family in Christ and we’re glad to see each other whenever we can. This holds true for those we’ve known or those we’ve just met.

  • 1 John 4:7    Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.
  • John 13:35    If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.

Wherever you may be this summer, may you know that you are family and you are loved.

Love and Blessings to all, Pastor Steve

Keuka College Carnival

On Friday, August 30th at 6 pm Keuka College will hold it’s 2nd annual Religious Carnival for the incoming students. This carnival is an opportunity for the area churches to set up a booth of games for the students to try their hand at. And, at the same time they can become familiar with the worship opportunities. See Rev. Sanden if you would like to participate in this fun activity.

“Handy-Man Helpers”

Members of our American Baptist Men's Group are volunteering to do small repair or clean-up jobs for folks who need this kind of help in order to maintain their homes. If you have something like a leaky faucet, plugged gutter, or lamp that needs a new cord, we can help you. Please phone the church office at 315-536-9821 to add your name and needs to our Job List and we'll get back to you.

News from The Board of Trustees

Thanks to the congregation’s approval on June 23rd, we will be replacing the steeple roof slate with shingles. The Trustees also awarded a $3900 painting contract to Mast Roof and Coatings Co. to restore the steeple from the deck of the bell platform to the roof edge and the little north spire.

The Trustees are thrilled to appoint Mary Watkins as our new Treasurer starting July 1, 2013. She will be working with our bookkeeper, Jan Hafner. (Yes… it takes at least 2 people to fill a portion of Stan’s shoesJ

We have adopted a tobacco free policy. You will see new signs posted at all entryways.

The Trustees will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at the Wednesday night summer concert series starting June 26th, 2013. Anyone interested in helping is welcome! The money we raise will go towards the steeple restoration project. The concerts continue until August 14th.
