From the Pastor's Desk
April 2015
Dear Church Family,

Thank you to the ladies who made our Women’s Sunday such a treat! Barbara Burke, our “on the scene reporter in Palestine”, gave us some keen insights and I fear she may be picked up by one of the major networks.

I don’t say this often enough, but I am very proud of our choir. They just sound so nice and Barb Stewart does a great job of selecting music.

There are so many folks that work behind the scenes that make things happen here and that make this a great church to be a part of. I hesitate to start naming names because I’m sure I’ll leave someone out, but in addition to our officers and board members I’d like to bring special attention to Stan and Cindy Ovens. Stan spends so much time in cleaning and fixing and helping various ways around there and Cindy is not far behind in her efforts to keep us happy and well taken care of.

Diane DeLooza keeps our library in order and fills in the office periodically and is our financial secretary.

Bill Decker keeps us fed Monday evenings with Barb and Rich Stewart faithful in bringing in salad. And we have a number of other folks that help with the dinner and clean up afterwards. These would include, but are not limited to Paul and Cathy MacDougall, Jean Vaughn, Ed and Rita Castillo, Judy and Russ Scheel and Don and Kathi Lawrence.

This is just a small snippet of things that get done and people who do them to make First Baptist the wonderful place it is. I hope you don’t get tired of my saying this, but Karen and I love all of you and are so blessed to be here.

For Easter we have the William Penn troupe of the Covenant Players with us to provide a very special service to celebrate our Lord’s resurrection. I hope you will all make a special effort to invite friends and family (and anyone else) to this special time together.

Thank you for serving the Lord, and thank you for being you! ~ Pastor Steve

Backpack Program Needs for April

Let’s pack some nutrition into the backpacks. This month we are featuring Fruit/Pudding/Applesauce Cups. Please consider picking up a package or two for our Yates County children. Some of them really depend on supplemental foods that the community donates. Let’s do our part to ensure that no child goes hungry.

Board of Mission Report

The winter edition of the Cameron Community Ministries newsletter is on the literature table. Their report of service programs is impressive! For example, in 2014, they served 5,249 children in their under 18 Kids Café with meals Monday through Friday. They also served 44,886 lunches and 4,893 Sunday dinners to guests. We were once again able to send our First Baptist, Penn Yan, contribution for 2015 in February, so that they can get a matching grant from Feinstein Foundation for theirs meals programs.

Tim and Patti Long ask for our continued prayer support for their ministries in Northern Mexico, as they are both traveling on the highways almost every day. Time logs over 500 miles a week in his travels to Mexicali, Tijuana and sometimes beyond, while Patti’s commute is less than an hour. They also request prayers for the students that they work with on a regular basis. Patti continues to have more than 30 special needs children under her tutelage each week and the Mexicali Baptist Seminary has more students enrolled than ever before with 17 full time students in addition to many more who are enrolled as part-time or extension students.

PLEASE BE GENEROUS IN YOUR GIVING TO THE EASTER OFFERING. All of these funds go toward the support of our Mission Programs in this country and around the world. Our goal for 2015 is $500.

A Prayer for Easter

Almighty God who brings new life back again out of the deadness of the winter, we thank you for the symbol of everlasting new life you have given to us, the Resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ. In him we see hope of new life in the midst of our despair over not being the people we would like to be. We pray that through your son, Jesus Christ, we might be able to die to our old life of hurts, frustration, and sin, and rise to a new life of love, joy, and peace. May we be able to rejoice with the disciples that Jesus Christ is risen indeed, and because of it, we can live also. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

I Said A Prayer

I said a prayer for you today, and know God must have heard
I felt the answer in my heart although He spoke no word.

I didn’t ask for wealth or fame, (I knew you wouldn’t mind)
I asked him to send treasures of a far more lasting kind.

I asked that He be near you at the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings and friends to share your way.

I asked for happiness for you in all things great and small
But it was for His loving care, I prayed for most of all.
