Ongoing Special Appeal for the Karen Children and Youth in Utica

We have received an appeal for used band instruments for the Karen children and youth of the Tabernacle Baptist Church of Utica. They will renovate the instruments into playing condition. Leave your instrument in the church office. Your Bd. of Mission will see that the instruments get to Utica.

Board of Trustees

Steeple Roof: Next year we will be looking at some major repair projects for the steeple and steeple roof.

Sign: We are looking into replacing the sign out front to better advertise who we are and what we are about.

Brokerage Account To Be Established in January 2013: The Trustees on the advice of the Investment Committee will be establishing a Brokerage Account in 2013 so that anyone will be able to donate shares of stock to the church. The account will have an annual fee of $25, only if no activity occurs within the year. Donors will be able to donate stocks to the account. Keep in mind, if you donate appreciated stocks, you do not have to pay tax on the increased value as you would if you just liquidate the stock and then donate the money to church. Donors should specify if any restrictions are placed on the donation. Otherwise, the stock will be liquidated immediately and sent to the Church General Fund account.

The Trustees are hoping to host an informational meeting in early 2013 to help explain the benefits and answer any questions.

Board of Missions

*We wish to commend and thank you for your generosity this past year. We were able to fund all budgeted items in 2012.

*The RMMO of $813 surpassed the goal of $700.

*We also wish to thank the generous person who donated a trumpet to the Karens of Utica.

As you read this, we are well into the Mission Program of 2013. On Feb. 2nd we will be making SUPER SUBS for Super Bowl Sunday. We have kept the price to $7.50 – the same as last year. You are invited to come to church and have fun joining the assembly line to roll out the subs. All proceeds go to Yates County Habitat.

We will be collecting pennies (nickles, dimes, quarters and dollars) for the PENNY PROJECT during the months of Feb, Mar. and April. All donations go to MILLY'S PANTRY for the BACKPACK PROGRAM. The BACKPACK PROGRAM provides food for needy children and youth of Yates County over weekends.

We received a nice Christmas letter from Tim and Patti Long, Missionaries to Mexico. Look for it on the Readers Table. There are a couple of neat photos of the locals participating in programs run by the Longs.

Helping a Village

Christian Community Credit Union donated $52,000 to the Launch A Village Project in Northern Thailand. Launch A Village is a program that is led by American Baptist International Ministries Global Consultant Mike Mann and his wife, BIM missionary Becky Mann. In partnership with Integrated Tribal Development Programme, the donation will provide water and sanitation resources, build a school and health clinic as well as provide lending for small businesses. It will help 3 villages sustain their production and marketing of Arabica coffee. This recent donation fulfilled the Credit Union's pledge of $232,500 made to the project in 2008.

God Does Exist!

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: “I don't believe that God exists.”
“Why do you say that?” asked the customer.

“Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people?  Would there be abondoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine a loving God who would allow these things.”

The customer thought for a moment but, didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”

“How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber.

“I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don't exist because if they did there would be no people with dirty, long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside.”

“Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!  Affirmed the customer. “That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there is so much pain and suffering in the world.

The love of God is like the ocean, you can see it's beginning, but not it's end.
