Why me, O Lord? Why Me?

I'm very young.

To think you've chosen me to bear your son

is quite beyond belief.

The news did stun my Joseph.

I expected to be flung aside by him

for who could live among his friends with such as I.

Yet there is none more caring, showing love,

that once begun, will know no end.

For nine long months I've clung to words Your angel spoke,

“Be not afraid.”

Yet now my time is near,

and we're alone in Bethlehem.

Within this shelter,

made for oxen, sheep, and goats,

the care You've shown surrounds us still.

Within my heart is laid more joy--

and sadness-- than I've ever known.
