Pastor: Hurry! Gather together! Don't be late! Stay Awake!

People: The time is near!

People: The wait seems long. We are anxious. We do not want to be caught off-guard. It is easy to become complacent.

Pastor: Tend to the light inside of you!

People: God is faithful!

New Testament Reading       I Corinthians 1:3-9                NT pg. 220

Unison Prayer

Lord Jesus, you have told us to stay awake and keep watch for your coming. Help us this Advent to be alert to the many ways you enter our lives: through prayer, through Scripture and through one another, especially those in need. Strengthen our hope in you so that we can persevere in times of trouble and frustration. Give us the trust we need to wait patiently when it seems that you are delaying. Fill us with your love as we strive to serve your people for love of you. Amen.

Lighting the Advent Candle:

Leader: Today we remember the prophets of old, who demanded to be heard, who dared to speak of a child to come, unexpected liberator of the people, vulnerable incarnation of God.

People: Today we give thanks for the prophets among us, who bring us surprising new visions of hope, who challenge us to think outside the box, who show us a future we never anticipated.

Leader: On this first Sunday of Advent, we light this candle as a symbol of the prophets who renew our faith and remind us of what may be.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

Calling All Knitters and Crochetters

We are collecting 6X6” squares knitted or crochetted in any color, style or pattern to make a quilt. The quilt will be given to someone in our congregation or our community who is in need of an extra “hug”. This is a great way to use up those extra odds and ends of yarn while ministering to others. There will be 2 drop off boxes for the squares: one on the desk by the Great Room entrance and one on the table in the back of the sanctuary. Thank you in advance for your help – let's get those needles clicking!! Questions call Pam Scutt at 536-2791.
