The Church’s Mission

Mission Nugget  -

Special Interest Missionary: Introducing Rev. Matt Lundgren –

The Rev. Matt Lundgren, executive director of Friendship House of Christian Service, Billings, Montana, joined the organization in August 2012. He is the latest in a long line of executive directors in Friendship House’s 55– year history.   Friendship House is a community development center, focused on building healthy, trus-ting relationships with the students and families involved in the year round, After School and Summer Enrichment Youth Programs. The majority of the children enrolled, kindergarten through 6th grade, are considered at risk,  and Friendship House aims to provide a structured yet creative environment for students to grow socially, emotionally and academically. The programs provided for the community are affordable and are driven by community minded staff and board members. “My goal is to see the local church community more fully integrated into the fabric of volunteers, donors and prayer supporters of this vital service to children and families in our neighborhood,” he says.

Preaching Jesus

And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ.           Acts 5:42

Yesterday I visited my sister in her assisted living facility. As I reached the elevator, the door suddenly opened. “Are you going down or up?” I inquired of the occupants as I entered. “We’re going up,” a man in a wheelchair replied. As the door closed, he added, “Soon I’ll be up in heaven with Jesus.” You must be a Christian,” I exclaimed. “You bet,” he said. The other occupants were silent, but no doubt they wondered about our conversation.

Not every believer is as powerful and effective in proclaiming Jesus as were Peter and the other apostles in the scripture reading. But like the encounter in the elevator, opportunities arise when each of us can be a witness. Even our smallest efforts can be fruitful.
