  Responsive Reading:

Leader: The Apostle Paul, a great missionary of the first century, wrote these words to the church in Philippi:
All: “One thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal.”
Leader: Like Paul, today’s American Baptist International Ministries global servants also “press on”.
All: We thank God for their work of evangelism in places like Mexico and France.
Leader: For their teaching in Hungary and Japan.
All: For the physical healing they bring to South Sudan and Nicaragua.
Leader: We thank God for giving these servants the strength to persevere against human trafficking in Thailand and Bulgaria;
All: And for their labors in economic development in Chile and Haiti.
Leader: For their peacemaking in Hong Kong and Zambia.
All: For their training of church leaders in Brazil and the Democratic of the Congo
Leader: We commend them to God’s presence and power.
All: And we seek the same for our own witness for Jesus wherever we are.

Our Church's Mission

Mission Around the World - Costa Rica
Sue Hegarty serves in Costa Rica, with the Baptist Federation and with the Pastoral Care for Women ministry. She teaches seminary courses for training pastors with the Costa Rican Baptist Federation in San Jose, as well as serving as liaison with American Baptist mission teams. Sue also teaches in the leadership development program for the inter-denominational ministry of Pastor Care for Women. This ministry seeks to give Christian hope to women in a male-dominated culture by teaching them of God’s love for them, which then empowers them as they seek to reach their potential as women of faith. Previously Sue served for twelve years in Cuba where she taught at the Baptist Theological Seminary in Santiago de Cuba and directed an editorial group responsible for writing and publishing Bible study materials for all age groups for the Eastern Cuba Baptist Convention. Prior to that she worked for five years in Nicaragua as the Christian education Promoter for the Baptist Convention, where she and a team of national leaders led teacher-training workshops and published Sunday School curriculum. Language used in ministry: Spanish
