The Church’s Mission

Mission  Nugget:  Karen  Refugee Ministry

Pastoral Care: the Reverend Daniel Htoo, Associate Pastor at tabernacle Baptist provides pastoral care to the Karen friends and members of the church. Pastor Daniel, a Karen pastor who served in Burma and the refugee camps in Thailand before resettling in the U.S., now addresses the needs and challenges of Karens who are starting new lives in Utica. The Caring Corner exists to supplement the church’s spiritual care with a program ministering to the physical needs of refugees. Clothing, household items and small furniture in good conditions are donated by church members and community friends. These are stored, sorted and displayed in the Sanctuary balcony. Through a partnership with Compassion Coalition (a local food pantry ministry) they purchase bulk quantities of food, toiletries, paper goods and diapers at a minimum cost. Since only edibles can be purchase with food stamps, these items are both necessary and highly prized.

A Prayer for the Karen Refugee Ministry in Utica, NY

Loving God, we pray for the compassionate and helpful ministries at the Karen Refugee Ministry at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Utica. We pray for those who have been forced to leave their ancestral homes and start new lives in our country. At the very least, they must adjust to a harsher climate and a new language. May they find a true welcome in Christian fellowship at the Tabernacle Baptist Church and loving encouragement from near and far across our American Baptist Church family. May our support show our appreciation for the long mission outreach to persons in Burma and around the world and our desire to continue to build bridges of Christian love and friendship both far and near. These things we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Thank you!

Thank you for your Mission contributions on July 20th. $169 was received for the Budget and $8 in pennies for the Backpack Program.
