International Missionary Jim Kelsey

Accepts Call as Executive Minister of

ABC-NYS International Ministries

The Rev. Dr. James Kelsey, American Baptist IM in Italy, has been called as the executive minister of American Baptist Churches of New York State. Kelsey will begin serving in this position on August 16, 2012.

Jim's wife Debbie, also an ordained AB minister, will continue  to serve as a missionary with IM. Debbie is currently on U.S./Puerto Rico assignment.

The Kelseys have served as IM missionaries in Belgium and Italy. Most recently they partnered with the Italian Baptist Union to work with African immigrants. Kelsey established a program that focuses on theological formation for African pastors and has worked with their churches, providing training, pastoral care and preaching.

“I have enjoyed my years of service with IM and have been honored to serve in an organization with such a storied history and vigorous ongoing ministry. The staff and missionaries at IM have enriched my life and demonstrated daily faithfulness, patience, and giftedness”, commented Kelsey.

Reid Trulson, IM executive director expresses his admiration for Kelsey's service to IM and IM's partners. “The quality of Jim's multi-cultural ministry in Europe led to invitations in recent years for him to also help train pastors in Vietnam. This, along with his own experience in pastoral ministry, has equipped him well for his work as Executive Minister of New York State,” Trulson commented. “As well as a deep commitment to our Lord Jesus Christ and a strong sense of call, Jim brings a broad spectrum of experience and gifts for ministry. Jim's gifts for administration, his passion for local churches and their leaders, and his rich experience as an American Baptist make him an excellent fit for us,” said

Rev. Lynn Sullivan, president of ABC-NYS

Backpack Program

Is in full swing again for the summer to help keep hungry Yates Co. kids fed. If they qualified for free breakfast/lunches during the school year, there's a good chance they are going hungry over the summer while school is not in session. Donations of breakfast/granola bars, cereal, instant oatmeal, mac & cheese, fruit cups, tuna etc and help packing on Wednesdays at 4 pm are greatly appreciated.

The Yates Co. Office for the Aging is in Need of Volunteers

Home Delivered Meal Drivers to deliver meals to home bound seniors. Mileage is paid and training is provided. If you would prefer not to use your own vehicle we do have an agency vehicle.

Phone Friends: these volunteers make brief, friendly phone calls to home bound seniors to provide support and to enhance social contact. Call Stephanie Bates at 536-5515 if interested in serving.

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Penn Yan. We are glad you joined us and hope you’ll feel at home, as we celebrate our faith and praise God together. In the pew in front of you, you will find a “get-to-know-you” card. Please take a moment to fill it out and place it in the offering plate.

We invite you to bring your children to the nursery during the service for a safe and Christian environment so that you may more fully experience Worship. Following today’s service please come to enjoy coffee, refreshments and fellowship in the Great Room.

If God had a refrigerator, your picture would be on it.

If He had a wallet your photo would be in it.

He sends you flowers every spring

and a sunrise every morning...

Face it, friend. He is crazy about you!
