Waters of Blessing
Our own Stan Ovens will be joining in with other volunteers from The American Baptist Churches of New York State, in partnership with the American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania & Delaware, June 18-26, 2016, to continue an ongoing mission project in Nicaragua.

In the rural communities of Nicaragua, less than 20% of families have access to safe drinking water. To date, through this project, volunteers have installed over 1100 water filters in 19 communities. These filters have proven to be effective in removing over 90% of the pathogens related to water borne illness.

On this June trip, Stan and others will visit homes in the community of Sabalete to see if previously installed water filters are working properly and will provide additional education. They will also construct a porch for the community clinic. This porch will provide a space for community leaders to be trained locally instead of making the costly journey to Managua for training.

Stan has gotten the necessary injections to protect him from various diseases, and will provide his own travel costs, but costs for materials for the project will be about$15,000. We would like to show our support for Stan by joining in prayer and taking up a collection toward the cost of these supplies. In addition to what we give, up to $1500 will be matched from the memorial funds given in memory of Rev. Douglas and Louella Passage. Their family has heartily endorsed this project and are thrilled that Stan is going as a missionary worker from our congregation.

Most of us are unable to take on a Mission Service Project in another country, but we can surround Stan with our prayers and help provide the supplies which he and the others need for the project. Let us do all we can to show our love for Stan and those in need in Nicaragua.
