For the Gals

The annual ABW Winter Get-Together will be held at Rita Castillo's home on Saturday, January 26th at 4 pm for some relaxing fellowship time, followed by a pot-luck dinner at 6 pm. Please help spread the word! If you've never attended before, please join us as you are more than welcome! Carpooling is encouraged.

For the Guys

Are you interested in joining a Book Club or Bible Study? We'd like to develop a Men's Group that will meet monthly, as we have a snack, discuss a book or do a book of the Bible study. Contact Ed Castillo, Don Lawrence or the church office if you are interested.

Now Available

Your 2013 Offering Envelopes are available for you to pick up at the rear of the sanctuary.

Help Wanted

FBC is searching for someone to be our “news reporter”. This person will forward information on the events at FBC to the Chronicle Express and the Dundee Observer. For more information call the church office. Coaching is available from past “reporters”.

Sign Me Up!

There is a new sign up sheet for Greeters and Lay Readers for the month of January.  This is a rewarding way to serve the church.

Can You Help?

In the past you have been generous to help us off-set the cost of the offering envelopes with a .25 donation. Looking at the situation in 2013, the cost (per person, per year) to provide monthly envelopes is $3.20 and weekly envelopes are $5.15. If you can make that one time donation to help off-set the cost for this year's offering envelopes it would be appreciated. Please mark that money as such. Thank you.

in the office there are a variety of catalogs for books, supplies and other church resources.

Office for the Aging/Council of Churches Bus

Three times a year every church in the council takes a turn to drive the Handicap Bus. This bus picks up those who would otherwise, due to their limitations not be able to attend their respective churches. Our turn  (it takes two: one to drive and one to assist) is this month, June and November. Currently we need coverage on January 27th. Please see George Jensen if you can help. Many people are counting on us.

American Baptist Women White Cross News

Our final project will be to collect items for Church World Service Hygiene Kits. There is a huge need as warehouse supplies were greatly depleted after sending large numbers of these kits to victims of Hurricane Sandy. There is a box at the church for your contributions all during the month of January. Kits should include the following: One hand towel (measuring about 16” x 28”), One washcloth, One wide-tooth comb, One Fingernail clipper, One bath size bar of soap (in wrapper), One toothbrush (in original sealed wrapper) Six standard size band-aids

Mission Treasury

On January 13, $244 was received for our Mission Outreach Budget. Our balance is currently $1648.73. Our January obligations are $900 for United Mission Basics and $600 for Food for the Needy. Please try to keep your contributions up to date. Thank You.

When you shop, if you can pick up a few extra items, the pantry is in short supply of: canned peas, corn or other vegetables and boxed cereal. Also, they are in short supply of volunteers to help out.

Youth Group

The Penn Yan UMC hosted an event on Sunday, Jan. 13th to create a Community Youth Group. All area churches, parents and youth were invited to share what they are doing and what they would like their Youth Group to look like. We saw PYUMC, First Presbyterian,

St. Paul's Lutheran, Bellona UMC, and the LDS Church, 60 people attended this event and enjoyed pizza and a dish to share supper with lots of desserts! The next meeting will be February 10th. Keep watch here for the time and location. Everyone is invited!

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Penn Yan. We are glad you joined us and hope you’ll feel at home, as we celebrate our faith and praise God together. In the pew in front of you, you will find a “get-to-know-you” card. Please take a moment to fill it out and place it in the offering plate.

You are invited to bring your children to the nursery during the service for a safe and Christian environment so that you may more fully experience Worship.
