News and Upcoming Events

From the Church Office
~ The Annual Meeting of First Baptist Church of Penn Yan will be held today at 11 am. There will be a dish-to-pass lunch following.

~ Articles for the February newsletter should be in by Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Church - Community Supper & Movie Monday, January 19
Supper at 5:00 PM - Goulash - $3.00
Movie Following the Supper - 6:00 PM. - Free. Musical - Billy Bigelow asks for permission to be sent down “from above” to try and make amends for mistakes he made in life. Billy worked at the carnival as a carousel barker, which is where he met Julie. The carousel owner, Mrs. Mullin, fired him because of jealousy, and he and Julie got married. Billy got into bad habits when he couldn’t find a job and they were forced to live with Julies’ cousin Nettie after Julie was fired from her factory job for staying out late with Billy. When Julie told him she was pregnant, he felt compelled to somehow find a way to support his family, but the only option seemed to be falling back into crime with his old pal Jigger.

Your 2015 envelopes are available at the back table. The estimated cost per box is $5. Whatever amount you can put into the “initial offering” envelope will be appreciated to help offset that cost. If you need a statement of giving for 2014 tax purposes, see Diane DeLooza.

Our Church's Mission

Mission Nugget
Mission Around the World – Southern Baja, Mexico

Since 2000, when David and Joyce Reed arrived in La Paz, they have seen the Mexican Baptist Convention of Southern Baja expand from 6 churches to 11, and three of those are planting new churches. An interesting fact is that these churches are growing through new believers. 98% of the people joining the Baptist Churches did not previously know Jesus. One growing church doesn’t have enough space for worship because more than 500 are now coming! In 2005, the Convention partnered with Lacey Seminary in Oaxaca to begin a Theological Extension School to train new leaders. In 2010, the school will graduate its first group of students from a three-year program, and 6 more people have joined the program as first-year students. David and Joyce have also seen one student travel from La Paz to Oaxaca to study full-time. Their ministry to English-speaking people continues to grow by leaps and bounds! In the last 9 years, they have seen this ministry grow from 8 people that met for a Bible study in their living room to a stable church of 50+ called Crossroads. The Reeds have seen God glorified through the growth and transformation of many lives.
Language used in ministry: Spanish and English

Mission Budget Report
Thank you for your Mission contributions on Jan. 11, of $207.
