Church  News

Official Notice

The Annual Meeting of the First Baptist Church of Penn Yan will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2013. The meeting will begin at 11 am followed by an all church pot-luck luncheon ~ bring your own table service.

Now Available

Your 2013 Offering Envelopes are available for you to pick up at the rear of the sanctuary.

Help Wanted

FBC is searching for someone to be our “news reporter”. This person will forward information on the events at FBC to the Chronicle Express and the Dundee Observer. For more information call the church office. Coaching is available from past “reporters”.

Sign Me Up!

There is a new sign up sheet for Greeters and Lay Readers for the month of January.  This is a rewarding way to serve the church.

Can You Help?

In the past you have been generous to help us off-set the cost of the offering envelopes with a .25 donation. Looking at the situation in 2013, the cost (per person, per year) to provide monthly envelopes is $3.20 and weekly envelopes are $5.15. If you can make that one time donation to help off-set the cost for this year's offering envelopes it would be appreciated. Please mark that money as such. Thank you.

Office for the Aging/Council of Churches Bus

Three times a year every church in the council takes a turn to drive the Handicap Bus. This bus picks up those who would otherwise, due to their limitations not be able to attend their respective churches. Our turn  (it takes two: one to drive and one to assist) is this month, June and November. Currently we need coverage on January 27th. Please see George Jensen if you can help. Many people are counting on us.

Annual ABW Winter Get-Together

Hi Ladies: weather permitting we will plan to meet at Rita Castillo's home on Saturday, January 26th at 4 pm for some relaxing fellowship time, followed by a pot-luck dinner at 6 pm. Please help spread the word! If you've never attended before, please join us as you are more than welcome! Carpooling is encouraged.

Your articles for the February Newsletter are due to the office on Monday, January 21st.

For the Guys

Are you interested in joining a Book Club or Bible Study? We'd like to develop a Men's Group that will meet monthly, as we have a snack, discuss a book or do a book of the Bible study. Contact Ed Castillo, Don Lawrence or the church office if you are interested.

TODAY Shop to Fill the Box

One of the ABW White Cross requests is for a number of school supplies to be sent to the Edna Martin Christian Center in Indianapolis, IN. We'd like to give everyone a chance to participate in filling this request. Today, these items will be on display in the Great Room following worship. You may choose items you would like to purchase and place them in the box provided. Most items are priced between just 25 cents and $2. Plan to come and “shop” and help fill the box!

American Baptist Women

White Cross News - Hygiene Kits

Our final project will be to collect items for Church World Service Hygiene Kits. There is a huge need as warehouse supplies were greatly depleted after sending large numbers of these kits to victims of Hurricane Sandy. There is a box at the church for your contributions all during the month of January. Kits should include the following:One hand towel (measuring about 16” x 28”), One washcloth, One wide-tooth comb, One Fingernail clipper, One bath size bar of soap (in wrapper), One toothbrush (in original sealed wrapper), Six standard size band-aids

Mission Treasury

Mission giving for the year had a good start. We received $26 in 2012 pledges and $419 in 2013 pledges. Adding in a Loose Offering of $39 gives us a total of $484. Thank you.

Welcome to First Baptist Church of Penn Yan. We are glad you joined us and hope you’ll feel at home, as we celebrate our faith and praise God together. In the pew in front of you, you will find a “get-to-know-you” card. Please take a moment to fill it out and place it in the offering plate.

You are invited to bring your children to the nursery during the service for a safe and Christian environment so that you may more fully experience Worship. Following today’s service please come to enjoy coffee, refreshments and fellowship in the Great Room.

Exit doors are located at the rear of the sanctuary, at the front and out the foyer, and at the rear of the building at the kitchen and stairwell.
